I'm A Barista!

Or I will be once I finish my training anyway.

One of my older posts was about the "coffee bar" we had in our dorm room. I made some reference to Starbucks, and in retrospect, it's a little blasphemous. Or something like that.

On Friday I had an interview, and on Friday I was hired. Tonight was my first night of training. I'm not working at a Starbucks though. (Hence the "blasphemous" comment.) I'm working at a Biggby. So it's not:

Like I portrayed in my post back in the day. Instead, it's more like:

Wow...My drawing skills have already improved since that first drawing. I look a lot less like a clown in the new drawing. And you know I hate clowns. Anyway, I digress.

If you've never heard of Biggby Coffee before, chances are you don't live in the midwestern United States. Fun fact to be proud of as a Michigander, Biggby was actually founded right here in our state. About 20 minutes from my town actually. And the store I am now employed at is store #11. It's old. We were informed in our training tonight about how to shut off the main water supply in case of an emergency like exploding pipes. No joke. Oh, and the electricity. In case of electrical fire. Fun stuff.

Back to the point, Biggby isn't a huge chain, but there are stores all over Michigan, as well as several in Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Illinois. There are a random few in South Carolina, Alabama, and Texas, but otherwise, it's a midwest thing.

So that's my exciting life news for now. Tonight I learned how to do things like pull espresso shots, make creme freezes, and shut off power and water in case of an emergency. Or as a fun practical joke.

Just kidding. I'd probably get fired for that, and I haven't even worked a real shift yet.

  1. First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on landing a new job, and I am totally loving the fact that it is at a coffee establishment!

I'm sure that you will do well turning off the water in case the pipes do explode on you someday.

  3. Hi, I'm new to your blog and decided to comment on this post since I'm hoping to be in the same boat. I'm also a 22-year-old college grad, and still looking for a job. Congratulations on landing one! Also, I love blogs with Paint drawings, and I hope your laptop situation turns around soon so you can draw again :)

  5. I'm much less talented at drawing in Paint than you are. I've been trying my hand at learning a how to create vector graphics lately. I've got to say it's kind of daunting task, but you do improve quickly with practice. One way to avoid copyright infringement is to draw your own images! That's one of the #1 things I've learned as I've started to blog.
